Today in 1948, singer and disco-era fashion icon Donna Summer was born. She is a singer-songwriter who is also considered the “Queen of Disco” in the 1970s with famous hits like “Love to Love You Baby,” “I Feel Love,” and “Last Dance.”

In 1974 in Munich, Summer recorded her first solo album, Lady of the Night, which scored a major European hit with the single “The Hostage”. Summer’s 1978 album Live and More reached No. 1 on the Billboard album charts and featured her first No. 1 single “MacArthur Park.”

Summer died on May 17, 2012 at age 63, after a years-long battle with lung cancer.
